Goals. Blocks. Actions.

When starting a business, some people can see their end goal, but aren't quite sure how to get there. As the saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day", so how was it built? Step by step. Obstacle by Obstacle. Day by Day.

The company I use to work for during has a super popular book out called The One Thing and it's all about working on the one thing you can do today to impact your business tomorrow and 90 days from now (I think, honestly I haven't read it...yet, but I've sat in on many classes and meetings over the last 2 years to get the gist). Here's a quick link on it.

Basically it breaks down in a 1-3-5 method

  • ONE Objective

  • THREE Goals to Accomplish Objective

  • FIVE Tasks for Each Goal

One of the regional directors, Bob Kilinski, switches out that last one to "what are 5 things that could hinder you from reaching your goal? What are 5 ways to combat them?" Which I agree are very valuable in business and life.

Let's use an example.

OBJECTIVE:

Book 5 Accountability Clients over the next month

THREE GOALS:

  1. Email list once a week
  2. Blog 2x a week
  3. Promote services and offer advice on social media

FIVE TASKS

1. Email list once a week

  • Create 4-5 email topics
  • Draft Newsletter
  • Gather links
  • Gather graphics
  • Proof and schedule

2. Blog 2x a week

  • Create 8 blog topics (or 4-8 blog themes)
  • Draft posts
  • Create links and bit.lys
  • Create graphics
  • Proof and schedule

3. Promote on social media

  • Organize all weekly graphics
  • Schedule in Buffer/Hootsuite
  • Engage with comments
  • Create and implement an IG story/FB video strategy
  • Just tell people what I'm selling

I hope this has been helpful and you can take this and apply it to your own business! It's not an overnight thing. Trust me, even I get anxious and want the clients rolling in. Take the time now to implement good, solid strategies to set a firm foundation for your business.

Let me know in the comments below what you're working on now!
