Moving Forward with Unmet Goals

Moving Forward with Unmet Goals | The Social Walker Agency

You’ll find out more in my September Recap post next week, but I put two goals on my monthly list that I didn’t even touch this month. This led me to think about a few things: why did I not do them, what did I do instead, and where do I go from here?

Why I didn’t achieve my goals this month

You know I do my Daily Business Hour pretty much every day. Some days are more successful than others, meaning I don’t do it every single day, or at least track it all the way out. I talked about this last month with my financial goals; I put them as goals, but did not create a plan for them. Just saying “Oh I’ll work on this during my DBH this month” does not equate to “I’ll spend 1 hour on Wednesday, September 26th working on my email newsletter sequence” and that’s exactly what I DIDN’T do in September. I know by now how I operate and for these two goals, I failed myself because I really wanted to get back on track with video and creating and actual welcome sequence.

Don’t think about it in terms of failure. Just go through these 3 questions for yourself and determine whether or not these goals are worth pursuing and planning for the next month. | The Social Walker Agency

So what did I do this month?

To be honest, I don’t know where September went. I know I spent at least an hour a day working ON my business, but I’m not entirely sure what I did. I’ve had 2 weddings this month (one that threw off my week #hurricaneflorence) and lots of local networking meetings. I only blogged one other time and sent two newsletters. So I have no clue what happened other than not setting a specific plan for those two goals. I do feel like I participated more in my Youtube Mastermind this month, and recorded my Powersheets video, but overall I just have don’t have exact answers. One of my clients who took the summer off, started back with her work, so I’ve definitely been working harder this month, just maybe not on my own business as much as I should have done.

Where do I go from here?

Are these goals really ones I need/want to accomplish? Two things I know - I want to have a great welcome sequence even though people are used to how email marketing works, and I want to get back to doing Youtube videos. Instead of getting frustrated at myself and writing these goals off, I’ve decided I just need a better plan for implementing them. As far as the video stuff goes, I have done a little research on what my audience actually wants (more planning videos!) and realized that since everyone at my co-working space leaves at 1p on Fridays, I need to make Friday afternoons my recording day. That means my DBH for Friday will actually be in the afternoon and client work will move to the morning. Which I’m totally fine with; you’ve got to make it work for you!

Don’t think about it in terms of failure. Just go through these 3 questions for yourself and determine whether or not these goals are worth pursuing and planning for the next month. If they’re not, breath a sigh of relief and just mark through them. If they are, make an actual plan to get them done. One of the hardest things to do with “monthly goals” is to break them down, I should know. I did make this video a while back on it, guess I need to re-watch it myself!
