Biz Tip: Set a Plan
Now that you've decided to start, regardless of which platform you choose, you need a plan. The first thing I tell clients is to think of your end goals. Is it just the number of followers or likes? How will those goals impact your business?
Really think about those two questions. The answers will determine where you put the energy in your business. Nothing just happens without at least a little bit of effort. Creating goals is great, but without purpose and actions - goals are just words that you may or may not have written down.
One thing you may not always feel hear is that you can change your goals at any point and that its OKAY and even good to do! For me, starting as a Virtual Assistant (VA) I listed all these tasks I could do so I could get X number of clients. But now that I've been doing it for about 6 months, I've changed my plan a little to focus on a certain type of tasks and created new goals around those tasks.
Another thing I mention to my clients is that, yes you need to think in long-term goals, but also in the short-term. You can read more about my goal-setting plans here.
Start your planning with the long-term goal in mind, but with action steps for the short-term. Are you asking yourself, what does that mean?
Here's my example - long-term goal is to work for myself, build a team, and have passive income. Those are pretty generic, and I am laying out what it looks like fore me personally, but those are some long-term goals. Short-term goals are ones I believe are achievable in the next 3 months and will continue to propel my business towards my long-term goals.
For 3 months, I can focus on building my email list and social media following. That means creating tons of quality content for blog posts, engaging on social media, and offering email list opt-ins. Those will lead into the next three months of offering paid mini-courses, strategy sessions once I've built my reputation, etc. The next three months would then be hopefully adding more retainer clients and selling full courses.
I know if I tried to sell a full course now, it would be a flop. So yes, in 9 months that is a great long-term goal, but I need to set the small goals and steps first.
